Security 101
Nearly 15% of U.S.
households experienced crimes between 2002 and 2003!
In 2003, 16.7
million households had at least one member who suffered a
violent or property victimization!

Having a sense of
security means more than feeling
secure -- it also means:
 |
Developing an awareness
of your environment |
 |
Knowing what security
issues exist, and |
 |
Knowing what you need
to do in order to be secure. |
You can learn to protect
yourself and your family in
almost any situation, with minimal changes to your
everyday life. In the same way you automatically
buckle your seat belt when you get behind the wheel, you
can learn to develop good security habits, become
"streetwise," and out-think criminals.

There are three
important tools you can use to
keep yourself and your loved ones safe and secure:
 |
Knowledge --
It's a powerful antidote to fear. Educate
yourself, your family, and especially your kids on
personal security and safety issues. |
 |
Your Mind --
It's the real key to staying safe! Your mind can
be more powerful than weapons or fighting
techniques. Out-thinking crooks doesn't require
size, strength or training. Age and gender don't
matter, either. |
 |
Your Instincts
-- "Tuning in" can protect you from harm. We all have an
inherent protection device that warns us of danger,
but we're often taught to discount our instinctual
feelings, usually starting in childhood. Instincts
help you survive. |

You can take charge
of your own personal security, because in the end, you
are the only one who can protect yourself!
|
|
|
Foundation
of a Personal Security Plan:
1. Be Alert
2. Be Aware
3. Have A Plan! |
|
Are you
Streetwise? Test Your Street Savvy!
1. Do you trust your instincts?
2. Do you walk confidently with your
head up?
3. Do you avoid taking shortcuts
through parks, fields and back roads?
4. Do you scan your surroundings
before leaving your car, or when entering or leaving a
building?
5. Do you avoid isolated parking
areas?
If you answered "NO' to any of
these questions, think again!
